Behind Waypint Homeschool

Hi there! I'm Britni Poe - a second-generation homeschool mom of 3. In my early years of homeschooling, I tried just about every curriculum out there. Some were:

  • Secular but too dry
  • Literature-based but missing structure
  • Engaging but too time-consuming
  • Family-centered but with religious world views

While I found many I liked, I could never find my ‘right fit’ curriculum. But more importantly, as our family grew I realized that frankensteining various curricula together for each child was becoming exhausting. Hence, the idea for Waypoint was born!

After years of piecing together different educational resources, I was driven to create something different, something adaptable yet comprehensive. This led to the development of Waypoint's innovative approach, rooted in spirals and cycles.

Why Spirals and Cycles?

The traditional grade-level structure often locks students into a rigid learning path that doesn't account for individual pace, interest, or the natural interconnectedness of knowledge. At Waypoint, we've broken free from this model, opting instead for a more organic, fluid approach to learning that grows with your child. Here's how it works:

Spirals:

Inspired by the natural progression of understanding the world, our curriculum revisits core themes across education levels, each time with greater depth and complexity. This not only reinforces learning but also builds a robust, interconnected web of knowledge.

Cycles:

Within each spiral, we introduce cycles—distinct phases of learning tailored to different stages of development.

  • Cycle 1 is designed for younger learners (grades 1-6), focusing on foundational concepts and engaging exploration.
  • Cycle 2 is aimed at older students (grades 7-12), diving deeper with more complex analysis and understanding.

At Waypoint, we understand the balance homeschooling families seek between the freedom to explore and the need for a guided learning path. Our spirals and cycles framework offers just that. Choose the starting point that best matches your child's current understanding, and progress through the spiral at a pace that matches their growth and curiosity.
